Czech Coal companies are organising annual events for pre-school and younger school children for the sixth time this year. Two characters, Barborka and Prokůpek, have become the patrons of the project. These characters have received their names [Little Barbara and Little Procopius] in honour of the guardians of the coal mining craft. During the year, they accompany children in entertaining and educational programmes. Over the past years they have talked about nature conservation, safety of children in various environments, and also good manners with children, and also adults. Hand-in-hand with Barborka and Prokůpek, children welcome school holidays and school years, celebrate the St Nicolas Day and Christmas, and enjoy their fancy-dress balls. For every event, children’s disco, different competitions, and performances given professional theatres and local special-interest groups are prepared. A visual arts competition often accompanies the Barborka and Prokůpek project. This year’s competition was opened for class teams under the name Zelená se zelená ta mostecká krajina [The Most area is green]. A kindergarten in the A Dvořák Street in Most has won the CZK 30,000 prize.
