A boiler from miners will warm Horní Jiřetín athletes

 Press Release

Most, 29 June 2010 – Litvínovská uhelná from the Czech Coal Group has contributed more that CZK 300,000 for the refurbishment of a boiler installation and for rubber tiling to Horní Jiřetín athletes. The company has granted requests from Sportovní klub Černice [Černice Sports Club], to which it has given CZK 55,000 for a new surface of a multi-purpose playing field, and from TJ Sokol Horní Jiřetín [Sokol Horní Jiřetín Physical Training Union], to which it contributed CZK 275,000 for the replacement of the heating system in a gymnasium.

Support for sports fields and, in particular, youth sport has long been one of Litvínovská uhelná’s key lines of sponsorship. “Thanks to our regular contacts with representatives of the DIALOG movement, with whom we are updating the proposal for compensation, we have general information about the developments in Horní Jiřetín and Černice and their needs. This information has also been a factor in our decision to accommodate Černice and Jiřetín athletes and support their numerous activities,” said Petr Kolman, Litvínovská uhelná CEO.

The Czech Coal Group still believes in the project for the unlocking of brown coal reserves for future generations. “In spite of that, we do not see any reason for not supporting various activities in Horní Jiřetín and Černice. For us, this is not wasted money, quite the opposite; we want the local residents’ life to go on as usual. It is just another way of showing how we want to approach the people in this town,” added Petr Kolman.

The request for a financial contribution suggested that Černice would use rubber tiling from RENOGUM, a company in the Czech Coal Group, for replacing the surface material on a multi-purpose playing field. The old coal-fired boiler in the Horní Jiřetín gymnasium will be replaced by a new Varimatik boiler made by Krušnohorské strojírny Komořany, another company in the Czech Coal Group.

The Czech Coal Group includes Czech Coal a.s., a trader in energy commodities, mainly brown coal, electrical energy and greenhouse gas emissions allowances, and Litvínovská uhelná a.s., which manages the largest coal deposit in the Czech Republic, Vršanská uhelná a.s., whose coal reserves within the mining limits will last until 2058, Czech Coal Services, a.s., which provides shared services to the extraction companies, and a number of other service companies. REN Power CZ, a.s., a major investor in renewable energy sources, and FitCraft Production a.s., a prominent Czech manufacturer of photovoltaic systems, also form a part of the Group.
