Press Release
Most, 31 January 2012 – The Czech Coal Group’s Vršanská uhelná a.s. has launched the third annual edition of the grant scheme for the support of education in the Most area, Clever Heads for the North. It is intended for secondary and tertiary educational institutions and, beginning this year, primary schools in the region. The 2012 annual edition will therefore have two separate categories.
Information about the third year of this grant scheme and the detailed conditions for obtaining a grant will be published in daily and regional press very soon. Potential applicants can obtain information, including the registration form, at www.chytrehlavy.cz and www.czechcoal.cz. Teachers, students, parents and the general public will also have the opportunity to influence the results by their public voting, thereby supporting their favourite project, this year again.
Projects will be registered between 1 February and 15 March 2012. Projects that will best meet the purpose of the support provided by the Czech Coal Group will be published in the local press and on the websites on 1 April. The public will be able to vote on the winner via the Internet and text messages. As last year, a competition for an extraordinary bonus will run on the Facebook profile of Clever Heads for the North. The winners in both of the categories will be announced in May 2012.
On the eve of the launch of this year’s grant scheme, an opening ceremony for a new classroom in Střední průmyslová škola [a secondary industrial school] in Most took place. Last year, the school won in public voting with its “More Efficient Interactive Instruction” project. The modern, and rather non-traditional equipment, was bought for a gift of CZK 249,000 from Vršanská uhelná. The new classroom will make it possible for the teachers and the students themselves to assess the knowledge possessed by students in the class.
“I am pleased that a technical school was successful in the grant scheme. I hope that it will use the new equipment for improving instruction really efficiently,” said Vladimír Rouček, CEO of Vršanská uhelná, on the occasion of the classroom inauguration. The school also placed first in the Facebook competition, and so it acquired the CZK 10,000 bonus last year.
The Czech Coal Group includes Czech Coal a.s., a trader in energy commodities, mainly brown coal and electrical energy, which also provides shared services within the Group, and Litvínovská uhelná a.s., which manages the largest coal deposit in the Czech Republic, Vršanská uhelná a.s., whose coal reserves within the currently existing mining limits will last until around 2055, and a number of other service companies.
