Every municipality and every region faces, in its specific conditions, the issue of providing smooth and reliable supply of heat to the households, the public sector and businesses. Decisions made in this area by public officials have a significant impact not only on the economic aspects but also on the environmental quality of the entire region for decades ahead.
Provision of heat from heat plants (centralised heat supply) is one of the possible options of how to ensure heat supply. District heating, as centralised heat supply is often called, may also involve combined generation of heat and electricity. The economic and environmental effects of cogeneration offer significant benefits, so that it is desirable to build or extend such facilities everywhere the conditions are expected to be favourable. Fuel is utilised more effectively in the process of combined generation of heat and electricity, which allows for significant savings.
For example, with its cogeneration units, Teplárna Otrokovice is able to offer its customers very attractive prices for heat – its prices are among the lowest in the region and, in fact, in the country.
