Power plant brown coal – for power plants, heating plants and other industrial customers

The market

The Czech Coal Group’s principal traded commodity is the Most steam brown coal intended for power stations and heat & power plants. Its key account is the ČEZ utility. Other important customers include, for example, Unipetrol RPA, United Energy, and Elektrárny Opatovice. We increased sales by almost 10% year on year in 2007. On the whole, for the area of power plant brown coal trade, we traded 13,8 million tonnes, which represent 177.630,000 GJ of heat with an average heating power of 12,89 MJ/kg.

Products

Coal Products

The Most Brown Coal Catalogue is the basic source of information about the products. The catalogue contains guaranteed quality product parameters, informative data about other quality features of the Most brown coal and basic fire-technical fuel characteristics. The catalogue is released to all Most brown coal customers.

Non-coal Products

We also deal in the processing of power and heat generation by-products, namely burnt coal residues. In the untreated form the power byproducts are used in the waste processing facilities, in particular for creation of the railway bedding, as subbase or gritting material, for creation of embankments and backfilling when constructing access roads and routes of remote belt conveyance units. Only the wastes, specified in conformity with the Regulation of the Ministry of the Environment No. 381/2001 Sb. (Waste Catalogue) in the group 10  and category “O” (other wastes) and the wastes meeting the conditions stipulated by the Regulation No. 294/2005 Sb., on conditions of waste storage and their utilization on ground surface, may be delivered. In the treated form the product - granulate and additivised granulate - is taken by surface mines for separate or mixed dump filling and for embankments and backfills.  The granulate is also used for railway bedding, for access and service roads inside the mining sites and for mining dump rehabilitation, i.e. the products conforming to the Government Decree No. 163/2002 Sb., which technical requirements for the selected building products are determined by. In 2007, we purchased almost 2.3 million tones of solid residues produced by coal combustion and solid products resulting from desulphurization of flue gases, which have been subsequently used in mining areas of Mostecká uhelná a.s. Compared to 2006, the amount of the by-products showed a slight drop of less than 0.1 million tones.
